Futurism and space continue to reign as top trends in pop culture, and in arts and design. When a design calls for an innovative and contemporary touch, futuristic fonts are the cherry on top.

Here’s a roundup of free fonts to help you stay current with ever-changing trends. Simply click on the links and download the .ttf or .otf files for use in your next project.

1. Abel

The first on our list is Abel, a condensed geometric sans serif that’s perfect for both headlines and body text.

Its angular terminals and oblong counters give this type a truly modern feel, ideal for messaging you want to be eye-catching. Let this typeface shine through by layering it over a clean or dark background.

Abel is available in Shutterstock Create, where you can quickly add it to your own image uploads or any design you’re creating with Shutterstock images.

Simply navigate to the Text (A) tool and select Abel from the Font dropdown to use this typeface in your future projects.

2. Ailerons

Inspired by aircraft in the 1940s, Ailerons is a cutting-edge typeface that juxtaposes sharp and rounded terminals with elongated type forms.

This typeface, designed by Adilson Gonzales, will elevate your designs with a “retro space” twist. Use this as a headline to capture your audience, paired with contrasting fonts like Montserrat or Raleway.

3. Alexana Neue

Alexana Neue is a display typeface consisting of simplistic lines and circles to construct letter forms, letting the viewer connect the dots.

This active approach gives Alexana a minimal cosmic touch, ideal for large headings. Avoid using this typeface as body text, as Alexana will be difficult to read at smaller sizes. To bring a modern edge, combine Alexana Neue with futuristic waves.

4. Anurati

Anurati, designed by Emmeran Richard, consists of angled letterforms that utilize the gestalt theory of closure. While portions of the letters are missing, they’re still easily legible.

Contrast this display type with a condensed serif or sans serif font for added emphasis, and layer over hazy forests or galactic cosmos for an ultramodern feel.

5. Aqua Grotesque
