SXSW 2020

Democratizing Visual Search and Discovery

Description:

Online search and discovery has evolved by leaps and bounds since the days of the traditional search bar. While it’s still the most highly trafficked touchpoint between a website and its users, using words as search terms has a number of drawbacks. Language can be limiting in how something may be described, especially when searching for images or music. Platforms such as Soundcloud and Shutterstock have millions of audio and visual assets that creative professionals filter through every day to find the right content. In this talk, SVP of Product at Shutterstock, Sylvain Grande, will discuss the process of democratizing access to finding these types of resources and creating alternative paths of discovery, one of the most important challenges for businesses to tackle.
